100th Anniversary of Sister Winifred & Vine Street Mission
A century has passed since “The First Angel of the North” opened the doors of the Vine Street Mission in the Teams. Since then literally thousands have passed through for health care, Scouts, Guides, Sunday School, etc.
To celebrate the work of this remarkable woman, an exhibition open free to the public is being held at Gateshead Evangelical Church. Add your name to a wall of nearly 3000 people who have been touched by Sister Winifred’s work. Stroll through 100 years of Vine Street Mission and Gateshead history. Find yourself in the archive photos of 3rd Company Gateshead Scouts and 7th Company Girl Guides. Remember the Sunday School, young people’s and church outings captured on camera.
The exhibition culminates with the Anniversary Weekend celebrations, October 15-16. Exhibition open: Mondays 6-8pm, Sept 19 & 26, Oct 3 & 10; Wednesdays 10am-3pm, Sept 21 & 28, Oct 5 & 12; Saturdays 10am-3pm, Sept 18 & 25, Oct 2 & 9. Anniversary Weekend: Saturday historical reminiscences with Eric Scott 7pm; Sunday Thanksgiving Services with the Scott Family 10:30am & 1pm
